Import generated assets into Unreal Engine
Use FBX when your Unreal project follows the FBX content pipeline. Import a static prop as a static mesh, then inspect scale, material slots, and collision in the editor. Pro covers static exports. A character that needs Objectify auto-rig uses Studio, but importing a prop into Unreal does not itself require rigging.
Choose the right starting point
Choose the importer used by the project and keep the original export. FBX is a common Unreal handoff for static and skeletal meshes. The file extension does not select the correct asset type for you: decide whether you are delivering a prop, a skeleton, or animation before import.
Work through the handoff
Use the Content Browser import action to select the FBX. For a prop, confirm the import type is static mesh rather than skeletal mesh. Inspect the resulting mesh asset before placing it in a scene. Reconnect or rebuild materials for the project shader workflow, and configure collision independently of visual geometry.
Limitations and failure cases
Unreal importer options differ across engine versions and importer paths. Material translation can require manual work, and generated geometry does not imply production-ready collision, LODs, or animation. Epic's documentation was access-restricted during this review; use the linked official reference for version-specific settings rather than treating this guide as a tested compatibility claim.
Acceptance checklist
Verify size against a known scene reference, pivot placement, surface normals, and material slots. Test collision during gameplay, not only in the asset preview. For skeletal assets, inspect the selected skeleton and playback behavior. Document the Unreal version, importer path, and corrections needed before approving delivery.
