Objectify

Change the material. Keep the mesh.

AI Texturing paints a mesh you already have. It returns base color, roughness, metallic, and normal maps, and it leaves the silhouette alone. Use it when the form is right and the material is wrong. It is included on Pro.

When to retexture instead of regenerating

Regenerate when the object is wrong. Retexture when the object is right and the surface is not. A chest with the correct bands does not need a new mesh because the wood should be darker.

The texture pass reads the prompt as a material description. Name the finish, the wear, and the color. Leave the object name out if the mesh already is that object.

What the maps are

Base color is the paint. Roughness says how sharp a highlight is. Metallic separates metal from everything else. Normal adds small surface detail without adding polygons.

Those four maps are the same set a text or image generation already returns. Texturing is how you replace them on a mesh you brought in, or on one you just made.

Where it sits in the plan

AI Texturing is on Pro, with text to 3D, image to 3D, Smart Remesh, commercial use, and export to GLB, FBX, OBJ, STL, USDZ, and 3MF.

It does not rig the mesh and it does not change the face count. Remesh is the density step. Auto-rig is the skeleton step, and that one is on Studio.

Limits to check before delivery

A texture pass cannot repair an open boundary, change a silhouette, or guarantee identical shading across renderers. Map conventions differ; identify channel packing and normal-map orientation before reconnecting textures.

Handoff checklist

Compare the approved mesh before and after texturing. Inspect UV seams and material boundaries under neutral lighting. Check that base color, roughness, metallic, and normal maps reach the intended shader inputs; do not approve from a single beauty render.
